Meet The Team

Sharkfest is organised and run exclusively by volunteers of UK shark conservation organisation Fin Fighters

Lou Ruddel

Lou is the founder/director of Fin Fighters, Director of Sharkfest, Founder of Surfers4Sharks, the winner of the 2017 IUCN WCPA Marine Challenge Award.

She is an ambassador for the Panorama and Blue Solutions networks, a United Nations SDSN Youth Solutions provider and is a member of the CoalitionWild US Department of Interior Mentorship programme.

She is a life long shark advocate and recently swam with over 50 sharks in Hawaii, no cage needed!

Jasmine Tribe

Jasmine is the co-ordinator of Sharkfest. As an Environmental Science graduate from Plymouth University, Jasmine's two main fields of interest are in sustainable lifestyles and marine conservation.

She believes that these subjects are inextricably linked; the food we eat, the clothes we buy, the products we use, all impact the ocean and the species that live there.

At University she co-founded, ran and now over-sees the award-winning sustainability project UniCycle which works at reducing food waste on campus and upcycling clothing amongst students and staff.

Phil Root

Phil is an internationally exhibited artist and creative director of Fin Fighters and Sharkfest. In 2011 he co-founded Fin Fighters with Lou Ruddell and is responsible for shaping it's visual aesthetic and creative approach to shark conservation.

A keen nature lover from an early age, Phil has developed a deep love for the ocean and regulary surfs and snorkels around the UK coast.

Graduating from Goldsmiths College with a Fine Art degree, Phil has been exploring the elemental and ancient parts of our culture and our relationship to nature.
